Job Description

A mid-sized boutique tax and accounting firm with locations in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and the US is seeking a talented and ambitious cross border tax professional to join their expanding tax practice. With over 60 tax and accounting professionals nationwide this CPA firm believes that their team is their most valuable asset. While maintaining a positive and engaging culture they help provide superior tax and accounting services to their diverse base of personal and corporate clients.

The candidate will be required to:

  • Assist in reviewing and preparing US 1040 returns, T1 returns and corporate Canadian and US income tax returns. Including any and all tax treaty and compliance forms and elections
  • Assist Partners in tax planning, client relations and compliance work
  • Training and mentoring of new and existing students and staff members
  • Tax research for existing clients and prospective client work
  • Writing of website and social media content
  • Assist in promoting the firm’s content and services both online and offline
  • Further develop the firm’s professional network and referral funnels

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and professional experience:

  • Over 5 years experience in cross border tax planning and compliance work. Preferably US-Canada cross border tax work
  • CPA Canada in-depth tax course preferred
  • Canadian CPA designation or tax lawyer
  • Superior tax research abilities and an in-depth knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act, IRS code and US-Canada Income Tax Treaty
  • Experience with client facing scenarios including initial cross border tax consultations and planning meetings
  • Ability to write articles and white papers on cross border tax matters. Experience in online promotion and marketing
  • Experience in leading a team of CPAs including reviewing of compliance work, training of new and existing staff and overall mentoring of team members
  • Superior organizational habits and result based mindset
  • Ability to be a helpful, co-operative and efficient member of the team
  • Experience using Profile, Prosystems FX tax and Caseware
